Somaschini in Trescore Balneario has chosen a very special gift to honour Women’s Day together with its associated company of the CIE Automotive Gear Division group, metalcastello of Castel di Casio, in the province of Bologna: Somaschini and Metalcastello have for some years been the flagships of the CIE Automotive Gears Division group, which brings together some of the world’s best in the field of precision gear design and production.
For the occasion, these two companies have chosen to work with Fondazione ANT Italia Onlus again in the fight against cancer, offering employees and 5 visit days for breast cancer prevention.
Breast examinations with ultrasound will be carried out by ANT professionals – in compliance with the Covid-19 safety protocols – aboard the Foundation’s Mobile Clinic on 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 May for Metalcastello and the Municipality of Alto Reno Terme, and on 12, 13 and 14 May for Somaschini in Trescore Balneario and Entratico.
Breast cancer is the most frequent neoplasm in the female population: 1 in 8 women will be affected by this disease during the course of their lifetime. It is exceptional under the age of 20 and rare between the ages of 20 and 29, but becomes more frequent after the age of 30 and reaches its maximum incidence between the ages of 45 and 60, increasing as the woman gets older. It represents 29% of deaths from cancer before the age of 50.
Early diagnosis of breast cancer aims to intercept the disease in its preclinical phase, i.e. before the appearance of evident signs and symptoms. And it is for this reason that it is essential to undergo periodical specialist and instrumental clinical checks, based on the person’s age or particular needs.

For Metalcastello and Somaschini, being part of a large group like Cie Automotive, also means being attentive to the situation in the area where they have developed their businesses, and certainly not from yesterday: in 2022 Somaschini will celebrate a century of life and Metalcastello its first seventy years. Both have grown up without ever abandoning their roots. This is why it is important to meet the requirements of the community, including those most in need, trying to support the territory in its vicissitudes, not only economic, but also social.”
“I have always considered the cancer prevention activities that we have been offering citizens free for over 15 years as very precious, – comments Raffaella Pannuti, president of the Fondazione ANT – thanks to the support and triangulation with private partners and virtuous companies such as Metalcastello and Somaschini, who choose to look after the well-being of their staff and citizens of the communities in which they operate. These activities are all the more necessary at a time like the present when the Covid-19 epidemic has forcibly overshadowed many other pathologies. I fear we will see a dramatic relapse in the near future.
The mobile structure is able to carry out 16 visits per day and will operate in three locations (inthe company’s car park, in Trescore Balneario and in Entratico) according to a timetable that will published soon. Free checks will be available to all Somaschini workers who book; given the duration of the initiative, which will last for three days, it will also be possible to involve many women living in Trescore Balneario and in Entratico.
